Support for key sectors of the local economy is provided by Leeds City Council through a series of sector initiatives. These are independent, membership-based organisations and include Leeds Financial Services, Leeds Manufacturing, Leeds Media, eHQ Leeds and the Asian Business Development Network.
Each has an active programme of seminars, networking, training and other events designed to develop and promote the sector as a whole.
Recent highlights include Refuel 2004, the annual showcase event at the Royal Armouries, highlighting the work of some of the leading media companies based in the city. Hosted by Leeds Media, keynote speakers at the event include Karen Brady, managing director of Birmingham City football club, and Martin Glenn, president of PepsiCo UK.
There are a number of other organisations, including Medilink Yorkshire & Humber and Screen Yorkshire, which promote sectors of the economy on a wider regional basis.
