Regional Policy

Purpose

Regional Policy team’s main contribution to council priorities is to one of the five elements of the Mission expressed in the Leeds Strategic Plan.

For a city region that is prosperous, innovative and distinctive, enabling people , business and the economy to realise their full potential.

The work of the team also related strongly to the council business plan Improvement priority – our citizens, businesses and communities are directly involved in policy development and decision making.

What do we do?
Regional Policy team provides support to the council’s ambition of going up a league through working to champion Leeds role in city region,  regional and national settings. The team provides officers who work in partnership with other authorities in promoting Leeds’ role as a key driver of the regional economy.

The Secretariat functions of the Leeds City Region and Yorkshire Cities are delivered through the team. This involves engagement with and resource support for partner  authorities and other stakeholders across the city region, region and also at national level particularly through Leeds’ membership of the Core Cities group.

The work involves policy development, research and engagement to ensure that the city and city region is able to meet the opportunities and challenges presented by Government. For example through its Review of Sub National Economic Development and Regeneration and other key policy initiatives.
