East Leeds Regeneration and young people

East Leeds Regeneration supports Children's Services work to

  • Make sure children and young people attend school
  • Improve transitions
  • Improve school governance, partnerships and performance and children and young peoples' achievements at all levels
  • Improve learning environments

East Leeds Regeneration's contribution to the Children and Young Peoples' Plan for the city is focussed on an integrated response to need.  Extended Services cluster groups provide excellent opportunities to develop and deliver projects in partnership.

Two new children's centres have opened - one in North and one in South Gipton - providing care for children and access to other services for their carers.

Archway, based in dedicated premises in Harehills, is a project set up to support young people.  They have opened a new facility in Seacroft called The Beck, enabling the project to increase its work in the wider East area helping keep young people in their home area and encouraging their community involvement.

The project seeks to

  • reduce tenancy breakdown
  • help young people to overcome earlier experiences and make a good start to adult life
  • increase young people's confidence and ability to take up training and employment opportunities, and supporting them in doing this
  • help young people achieve their potential providing a range of services, activities and facilities in support of all of the above.

Plans have been approved for a brand new school in Richmond Hill which will include a Centre of Excellence for autism.  Work has completed on the Moyes Centre, a centre for alternative education sited alongside the David Young Community Academy and extensions will soon be finished at Harehills and Bankside Primaries.
