The Core Strategy sets out the Council’s vision for the future development of Leeds over the next 15 years, and is the principal document in the Local Development Framework. It addresses a wide range of environmental, social and economic considerations in order to address the challenges and opportunities which Leeds faces. The Core Strategy is shaped by a range of policies, including the Vision for Leeds (Community Strategy) and national guidance.
Previous Stages of Consultation
The Council undertook Informal Consultation in late 2006 to identify issues and develop initial options for the Core Strategy. The comments received at this early stage were used to inform and help focus the Issues and Alternative Options stage, which underwent formal consultation in October to December 2007. The Preferred Approach was consulted on for a period six weeks informal consultation in October - December 2009.
Consultation on publication draft
This consultation closed on 12 April 2012. It focused on the tests of soundness the independent inspector will consider. These assessed whether the Core Strategy is:
- Justified;
- effective;
- consistent with national policy.
