The Town & District Centres Regeneration Scheme started in 2005 with the aim of making improvements to the public realm and publicly owned assets in town, village and district centres across Leeds that would encourage regeneration, increase business and investor confidence and create an improved shopping environment for local people.
The development in each centre has been led by local partnerships consisting of local traders, residents, councillors, civic groups and local authority officers. So far 56 schemes in 18 town and district centres have been approved and all but a handful have been completed.
Funding has primarily come from Leeds City Council, the Homes and Communities Agency and the Big Lottery Fund.
