Grants worth up to £250,000 are available to businesses across the Leeds City Region to support business investment and expansion. Over £20 million has already been allocated through the programme, which offers grants to cover up to 20% of the cost of investment in new premises, fit outs, capital equipment and machinery. A further £18m is available to support business investment over the period 2015-18.
The grants are available through the Leeds City Region Business Growth Programme and are linked to employment creation. Grants are focused on small and medium sized businesses, which have been trading for at least 12 months. Grants are primarily to support capital projects. In some cases it may be possible to support research and development activities.
Companies operating in a wide range of business to business sectors have received financial support through the programme. Stanningley based engineering company LBBC Group received a grant of £130,000 towards a £1.5 million investment in new manufacturing facilities and offices for its LBBC Technologies division.
Much larger and smaller grants have been awarded to companies: internet service and telecommunications company AQL Ltd was awarded a grant of £0.5 million to help develop a new data centre in Leeds; surgical supplies company Medasil received £10,000 towards an investment in new silicone curing equipment.
Support from the Business Growth Programme is also available to companies in the Leeds City Region Enterprise Zone. Samuel Grant Group has been awarded £150,000 towards the cost of its new warehouse and operations centre, now under construction, while Watershed Packaging received £40,000 toward its investment in new machinery at its new production facility.
The grant scheme is funded through the Government’s Local Growth Fund and designed to boost investment in key growth sectors including life sciences and related industries, digital and creative industries, low carbon and environmental industries, manufacturing and financial and business services.in the Enterprise Zone.
