For businesses in the LS28 postcode, the first BSL programme, BSL28, is a locally-run programme led by Ahead Partnership in conjunction with Leeds City Council, Leeds, York & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and Leeds University Business School, to support small businesses across Outer West Leeds, initially across the LS28 postcode area.
Research suggests that those SMEs which use external business support (i.e financial, business development, mentoring etc.) are more likely to succeed. But SMEs find it difficult and time-consuming to find the right kind of support, and use it. BSL makes it easier and quicker for SMEs to identify and access the right business support. Yorkshire Association of Business Angels (YABA)
Yorkshire Association of Business Angels (YABA) is an introduction service that puts private equity investors looking to invest in start-up, growth stage and turnaround opportunities, in touch with entrepreneurs and companies seeking finance. Business angels provide a vital source of funding to fill the equity gap in the high risk, early stages of business. They may invest sums of up to £300,000 but more usually keep within a range of £10,000 to £100,000. Importantly, angels are able to offer a wealth of business expertise and advice. YABA is a non-profit making organisation set up in 1995 and has over 100 business angel investors in its network.

Leeds Met Business Enhancement Scheme
The recent recession has had an impact on businesses of every size. In response to this economic downturn, Leeds Metropolitan has started a scheme to help your company move forward by assisting with the introduction of new skills and capabilities in line with your business priorities. The Business Enhancement Scheme will enable you to make use of the resources available at Leeds Metropolitan University. They will source a recent graduate who, for a specific period of time and whilst employed by the University, will work full-time in your company. In addition, you will be given support from academics with expertise in your chosen field(s).The Scheme is available to all size of companies in public, private and third sectors operating across all markets. University of Leeds Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
The Keyworth Institute at the University of Leeds offers a wide range of business support and links to the research base, including student placements, strategic innovation projects, consultancy and liaison on joint research. Internally the Institute provides enterprise support to staff and students, who wish to apply their research in real applications and collaborate with industry.
CO2 Sense is an independent not-for-profit low-carbon expert company. They advise businesses on how they can improve performance by cutting energy, waste and other resources and on how to use their own land and buildings to generate electricity and heat. CO2 Sense can also provide access to finance to support business investment with an environmental return and if your business has 250 employees or fewer, and is based in Yorkshire or the Humber, you could get a free grant of up to £8,000 to make permanent cost savings.
