Registration and approval of a food business – what’s the difference?

If you run a food business in Leeds you need to register the details with us. For more advice and a form to register your business, please visit our Register a food business page.

If you produce or sell food made from animal ingredients that you sell to other food businesses you may need approval instead. The rules about approval are complex but it is an offence to trade without approval if your business requires it. Get in touch with a member of our team and we will advise you whether or not your business requires approval and give you a form to complete if it does. You can telephone on 0113 378 5900 Monday to Friday between 9an and 4pm or you can email on food.safety@leeds.gov.uk.
