You can carry out a personal search of the Local Land Charges Register by attending the Local Land Charges Office at the following address:
Local Land Charges
1st Floor St George House
40 Great George Street
Leeds LS1 3DL
N.b. this is not our postal address and all correspondence should be addressed to Local Land Charges, Civic Hall, Leeds LS1 1UR.
The office is open to the public 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
There is no fee payable for carrying out a Personal Search.
The service is fully computerised and whilst assistance can be provided by a member of staff it remains your responsibility to carry out the Personal Search. A user guide for the system (Total Land Charges TLC) is available.
We do not operate an appointment system and you are welcome to carry out as many Personal Searches as you require. However, as only one computer terminal is available for use, in the event of a queue forming we would ask anyone carry out searches to rejoin the queue after a period of 45 minutes. In the event of no queue forming then naturally you are free to continue for as long as is required. Thank you in advance for your co-operation on this point.
A personal search is defined by statute and it is the responsibility of the individual carrying it out to ensure that they can locate the property e.g by having a full postal address or map.
It is your responsibility to record the information revealed in the results (as displayed on screen) so it is advisable to bring your own pens/note pads/lap tops etc. A printout of any Personal Search results is available – the fee being 10p per page.
In the case of most local land charges reference numbers are clearly revealed. Should you need to contact this office regarding these entries you will be asked for these reference numbers so to avoid delays we would strongly recommend that you record this particular information.
Please be aware that any queries regarding register entries/requests for copy documents must be made in writing and cannot be answered whilst attending this office (unless the query is of a very general nature).
