Leeds is an international city with one of the fastest
growing economies in the UK. It is the main employment centre for the region as
a whole and has established itself as the financial capital of the
north.
Published in June 2000, the Leeds Economic Development
Strategy, sets out how public and private sector organisations in the city will
work together to ensure continued and sustainable development. The strategy is
designed to encourage the generation of wealth, investment and jobs in ways
that meet the needs of all our citizens.
The 2002 Strategy Review assesses whether the analysis
and assumptions informing the strategy still apply. It reviews progress in
‘developing a regional centre and cosmopolitan city’ – one of the key themes of
the strategy – and provides an overview of key projects currently underway in
the city.
