Voluntary organisations

The Civil Contingencies Act also provides a duty on local authorities to promote business continuity among voluntary organisations. Some voluntary organisations help local authorities and the emergency services during an emergency incident. In West Yorkshire a regular Volunteers Group meets to train volunteers so they are prepared for an emergency.   

Co-operation with trade organisations

The Peace and Emergency Planning Unit is liaising closely with the Leeds Chamber of Commerce, the West Yorkshire branch of the Federation of Small Businesses and the Regional Development Agency, Yorkshire Forward on promoting business continuity.
