Business rates calculations

The rates payable for a property are calculated by multiplying the rateable value by the national rate in the pound, or ‘multiplier’.

The multiplier increases each year by the rate of inflation, except following a national revaluation when it is adjusted to reflect the increase in the total of all rateable values nationally

The National Non Domestic multipliers since 1/4/90 are as follows:

The amount payable may vary if a relief or exemption applies (see Rate Reductions).

If an occupier moves out and empties a property part way through the financial year, the rates will be recalculated to take this into account and any appropriate relief applied.
