Building work completion certificates

Completion

On completion of the building works and following a completion inspection a Completion Certificate will be issued to the owner of the property.

Providing that:

  • 1. all relevant site inspections have been carried out and
  • 2. that the completed work is in accordance with the Approved plans, or complies with current Building Regulations in the case of a Building Notice

This is your assurance that the work complies with the Building Regulations.

It is recommended that this inspection is undertaken before your builder leaves the site and before any final payments are made.

When property is to be sold a Completion Certificate may speed the sale process. It is therefore a valuable document which should be kept safe as without it you may have difficulty selling your property.

Important - a Completion Certificate is not the  same as a guarantee or warranty?

The completion certificate simply confirms that, as far as the Council have been able to ascertain, the work on-site complies with the current Building Regulations. This means that inspections will have been carried out at the appropriate times, and that any problems found were put right. The Council do not however provide a guarantee or warranty on the work.
