We run a swimming training scheme (STS) for competitive swimmers. The scheme is a natural progression for 6-11 year olds from our learn to swim programme (swimming lessons).
Swimmers enter the scheme at Stage 8 (formerly E Group) of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming, these groups are based at one of 8 centres around the city. Emphasis is on technique and skill development, swimmers can then progress through the scheme based on their swimming ability.
Promotions in to the swimming training scheme will involve two stages.
Senior coaching staff visit each Stage 8 to assess the swimmers on their technique. The coaching staff identify those swimmers who have proficient technique for the second stage of the promotions process.
Swimmers undertake a trial to become a member of the swimming training scheme. If successful a place is offered within a development squad in the swimming training scheme.
Throughout the scheme swimmers can progress from county to regional and national standard, at the top level of the scheme, swimmers are of international standard.
The training scheme is run by three full time coaches and approximately thirty part-time coaches, all coaches are Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) qualified and hold enhanced safeguarding certificates.
Our swimming training scheme operates at the following centres
- Aireborough
- Aquatics centre at John Charles centre for sport
