Licence summary
Leeds City Council has the power to grant licences for the exhibition, demonstration or performance of hypnotism on any living person at or in connection with an entertainment to which the public are admitted, whether on payment or otherwise, at any place in relation to which a licence for public dancing, singing, music or other public entertainment of a like kind is in operation.
Eligibility criteria
The application must be made in writing on the prescribed form.
Information required is as follows
- Details of the hypnotist
- Date and time of the performance and venue
- Details of any professional organisation to which the hypnotist is a member
- Synopsis of the act
- Details of hypnotists Public Liability Insurance
- Details of the hypnotists last three performances (including venue and local authority area)

Application evaluation process
You should apply in writing to Entertainment Licensing providing details about the performance including date, time venue etc.
All applications are considered by the Council’s Licensing Committee. Once your application is received a committee meeting will be identified and you will be given due notice.
Will tacit consent apply?
Yes. This means you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from us by the end of the target completion period
Target completion period
60 days from receipt of correctly completed application form.

Leeds City Council is under a duty to protect the public funds it administers, and to this end may use the information you have provided on your application for the prevention and detection of fraud. It may also share this information with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds for these purposes.
