Whether you choose to get married in a Register Office or in Approved premises, there are many ways in which we can help to make your ceremony meaningful and personal to the two of you.

We have a number of ceremonies for you to choose from (see Choice of ceremonies) and there is opportunity for you to tailor your ceremony to suit your individual wishes. You can discuss this with the Superintendent Registrar either at the time of giving notice or during the time prior to your wedding day.

If you are marrying at an Approved premise you will be asked to pay the registrar's fee a month before your marriage. This is usually a good time to make an appointment to discuss your requirements with the Superintendent Registrar. Alternatively, write to us or email our office with your ideas and selections (see How to contact us) You may also need to speak to the event organiser at the Approved premise.

Here are a few ideas for you to consider.

  • The bride may wish to be given away by her father or by another person of her choice, accompanied by bridesmaids and/or pageboys
  • Whilst you must have at least 2 witnesses, you may have up to 4, for example to include both mothers or any children.
  • The rings could be given to one or two members of the group to hold for you, ready to hand over at the appropriate point in the ceremony.
  • Nominate someone to take the flowers from the bride when needed (adult or child)
