West Yorkshire Police Authority has a statutory duty to secure the maintenance of an efficient and effective police force within West Yorkshire. The authority is made up of independent members one of whom must be a magistrate.
For police advice or help
West Yorkshire Police has three local divisions for Leeds. These are City and Holbeck, North East Leeds and North West Leeds.
If you need police advice or help, but not police attendance, call your local police helpdesk which is open 24 hours. Details of police services and how to contact your local police station can be found on the West Yorkshire Police website.

In a non-emergency
If there is non emergency but police attendance is required, dial 0845 606 0606 (all calls charged at a local rate) and you will be connected to the police. Make sure you:
- tell them the reason for your call
- tell them where you are
Contacting the police in an emergency
Only use 999 in an emergency, where there is a danger to life or a crime in progress.
Crimestoppers
If you have information about a crime, you can call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111. You don’t have to give them your name and you might be able to claim a reward.
