Community sports officers 
Community sports officers are responsible for encouraging and improving the quality and availability of sport and physical activity opportunities within their area (wedge).

What we do 

  • Advice - community sports officers give advice and support for clubs, schools, individuals, voluntary organisations on any aspect of sport or any sports related issue.
  • Funding - although they do not have a budget of their own, community sports officers are able to help to identify potential funding sources, to provide guidance on applying for funding and assistance during the application process.
  • Support - community sports officers are also able to provide guidance, advice and support in areas such as
    • club development and accreditation,
    • child protection,
    • school club links,
    • coach education,
    • volunteer development
    • sports pitches and facilities.
  • Partnership working - community sports officers work in partnership with clubs, schools, sports specific development officers, primary care trusts, the youth service, sports centres and other organisations to provide and develop sporting opportunities within their local communities.
