Guiding the transformation of a rising city

Owl

What makes Leeds unique as a city and what role does its history and the dynamics of contemporary urban development play in shaping its continued growth and expansion?

These were the questions that the original Renaissance Leeds Study, commissioned by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward in 2004, set out to answer.

Carried out by John Thorp, Civic Architect with support from Boston-based architectural consultancy Koetter Kim, the study identified the five physical elements and eight principles of urban design that distinguish Leeds as a city and make it unique in time and place.
