These profiles provide a summary of the current year results together with the changes since last year. With only two years of data to compare care must be taken when interpreting these results.
It is important to note that significant change in the domain scores does not necessarily reflect underlying conditions. An area may have seen a significant deterioration in score but may still be performing well in comparison and conversely an area showing significant improvement may still be performing poorly.
Particular care should be taken when comparing data in the Environment domain. It should be acknowledged that industrial action, which took place in Streetscene Services (affecting refuse collection and street cleansing services) had an impact on performance. The industrial action lasted for eleven weeks from early September 2009 and although some core services were maintained, the full service portfolio was not delivered in those weeks.
Each change profile contains five different elements and the following table provides a brief description of each of these components:
Domain Summary |
Comparison of the domain scores and ranks over the two years and a measurement of the "gap" between the two. The colouring ranges from light beige through to dark purple to indicate how statistically significantly the 2010 score differs from the 2009 score, shades of purple highlight areas that significantly under-perform (the darker the purple the most significant) while shades of beige show areas that are generally in line with or better than the city average. The colouring of the change highlights statistically significant changes within the individual domains (standard deviations from zero rather than the mean). |

Radar Chart and Bar Chart
Pictorial representation of the score changes as both radar and bar charts. The bar chart just illustrates the change - bars to the left of the centre line indicate that the area has deteriorated - bars to the right show it is doing better. On the radar diagram the current year scores for the MSOA are shown as the solid blue shape against the yellow line which represents the 2009 score. Where the blue is inside the yellow line it shows the area is deteriorating. |
Overlaid Bar Chart
A pictorial representation showing the change for each indicator. 2009 data is shown in yellow and 2010 in blue - blue extending beyond yellow shows an improvement, yellow beyond blue a decline and green shows little or no change. |
Indicators
Shows the data and score for each of the two years and the change. |
Pie Charts |
A pictogram showing the proportion of indicators falling into each band for each year together with the change - for MSOA and for city. |
