Swarcliffe Social Housing Project

Swarcliffe Social Housing

The project is providing the refurbishment and upgrading of existing council housing, with allied environmental improvements in the Swarcliffe area in Leeds.

Approximately 1,600 council dwellings will achieve decency with new kitchens, bathrooms and significant upgrading of their energy efficiency. Estate regeneration and environmental works will also benefit the broader community of approximately 3,000 dwellings. These works include the remodelling the road network and parking provision, new play areas, new leisure trails and over 400 newly constructed homes for sale and rent.

The contract of this project was signed in March 2005. The capital investment and service delivery programme commenced in June 2005.

The partnership is between the Leeds City Council and Yorkshire Transformational Limited, a consortium now comprising Carillion, Yorkshire Housing Group, Halifax / Bank of Scotland.

Major investment is now taking place over the first five-year period through the contractor who will provide hard and soft services through the life of the 30 year project.

The project is now in year 3 of the 5 year construction phase. At April 2008 some 736 houses have been refurbished with approximately a further 800 to be completed by July 2010.
